Submission of Papers to the
Bulletin of the London Mathematical Society

The Bulletin welcomes submissions where the final published length is

Survey articles are also considered regardless of length. If you are submitting a survey article, please begin the title of your paper with the words ’SURVEY ARTICLE’ in capital letters.

Papers likely to be outside the page range of the Bulletin may instead be submitted to one of the sister journals as follows.
     Journal of the London Mathematical Society: 15–28 pages
     Proceedings of the London Mathematical Society: 22 pages or more

Page estimate

To estimate the length of your paper you may use the LMS LaTeX class file. A dense page in the LMS style typically contains 45 lines of text.

A paper whose length is outside the allowed page range may be swiftly rejected.

Submitting your paper

You may submit a paper electronically as a single PDF file. To do this, you will need to complete a web form.

• Have a single PDF version of your paper ready to be uploaded as part of the web form submission.
  
  Please keep the .tex file that precisely corresponds to the PDF version that you are submitting. If your paper is accepted, we will require that particular version of the .tex file. Please do not send the .tex file at this time.
  
  
• Have a look at the list of Editorial Advisers and be prepared to select one whose mathematical interests are closest to the subject of your paper.

You will be sent an acknowledgement immediately, confirming receipt of your submission. If you do not receive an acknowledgement within 1 hour, please write to bjplms@lms.ac.uk.

Revised version

If you wish to upload a revision of a previously submitted article, please do not use the link above. Instead, use the status link contained in the email you received from us about your previous submission. If you cannot find the link, then write to us.

The Editors prefer not to consider multiple versions of the same paper before a decision on the first version is sent, particularly if the changes are minor. If you have received a letter that firmly rejects your paper and does not mention that a resubmission would be considered, you would be advised to submit any revision of your paper to another journal.

General Submission Guidelines

• Papers should be submitted in English or French.

• Each paper must be submitted exclusively to one journal.

• No paper that has been previously published, or which is being considered for publication elsewhere, should be submitted to the London Mathematical Society.

• Nor may a paper that is under consideration by the London Mathematical Society be submitted elsewhere.

• Authors should take care to keep a copy of all emails sent to the Society.

Authors may prepare their manuscripts in the ’LMS’ document class for LaTeX2e. The class file and its accompanying, concise author guide can be downloaded here.

Please remember that only the PDF file should be submitted electronically in the first instance. Even if you have prepared your paper using our class file, we do not want to receive the .tex files unless and until the paper has been finally accepted for publication by the Editors.

Conditions for acceptance

• Upon acceptance, you will agree to assign copyright to the Society. See the sample copyright form.

• Authors of accepted papers have the option (by paying a charge) to have their article published under ’Open Access’. For more information, click here.

• You may continue to post electronic versions of your paper, up to and including the version initially accepted for publication, but excluding proofs, on any web page, server or electronic archive, provided that you give a journal reference to the published version ('to appear', or with published page numbers). You should also include a statement that the two versions are different.
